This Galaxy Note 8 leak adds weight to dual-camera rumour

We’ve seen no shortage of Galaxy Note 8 leaks, but today we’re able to share a rare clue that comes from Samsung’s own official website.

We’ve seen no shortage of Galaxy Note 8 leaks, but today we’re able to share a rare clue that comes from Samsung’s own official website.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM), a part of the overarching Samsung Group corporation, has published details about a new camera module developed in-house. Importantly, this camera module is based on a dual-lens design, the same kind of snapper we’re expecting to see embedded in the Galaxy Note 8.

It’s already been previously rumoured that SEM would be supplying the camera for the Galaxy Note 8, so it seems almost certain that this (or a variant of this) dual camera will be included in the final design.

Unlike many of its rivals, Samsung opted against including a dual-camera module in the Galaxy S8, which launched earlier this year. That’s why it’s expected that the Galaxy Note 8 will introduce the new shooter instead, given that the following htc parts have already utilised such a set-up: Apple iPhone 7 Plus, LG G6, Huawei P10 and OnePlus 5.

Excitingly, the SEM website details a number of features that will be enabled courtesy of the new dual camera. One is called “Smart Zoom”, which enables 3x optical zoom on a htc replacement parts ; another is called “Refocus”, which senses depth and can be used to blur the foreground or background of a photo after it’s been taken.

The website also notes that the dual camera will offer better performance in low-light conditions on account of the increased light absorption – you’re getting two cameras, after all. There are also “Perspective View” and “Background Effect” features mentioned, which will allow for editing based on dual-camera techniques – expect a digital bokeh effect to feature heavily.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 at its planned Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City on August 23. The company has not officially confirmed that this will be the case, but we’ll report on whatever comes out of the conference regardless.
